Indian Society and Female Foeticide: 2013

Indian Society and Female Foeticide: 2013

There is no doubt that the India is growing at a faster rate in the field of Science and Technology and also in accepting the western culture, but if we look at the ground level, the situation is totally different, especially when it comes to fairer sex. Female foeticide and status of girl child in the male dominated Indian society is still a matter of concern.

The girl children are treated as a burden on head in our country, just because the father has to pay hefty sums, gold and luxurious items to boy family at the time of marriage. In order to get save from such situation the family members get the fetus aborted, if they discover they are going to have girl child.

But if we look at the recent development throughout the country the atmosphere are slowly and gradually changing. The Khaps who are considered as anti women rights have started playing an instrumental role in regards to stop female foeticide and treat girl child equally.

Participation of male population in a protest at India Gate against the brutal gangrape of a paramedic student in Delhi has proven that the mindset of the society is changing. But it need to go long way.
